Hello y’all!

Welcome to Chapter 10 of Southern Gothic ! I’ve got to tell you: that last edition of The Purloined Letters was a REAL doozy. The follow-up messages we received from y’all were some of the best correspondence of my LIFE. To answer your most burning question: NO, I have not heard from the Sheetz marketing/influencer team, but I am not giving up hope for a lucrative Sheetz endorsement!

Please continue to send your messages about Southern Gothic to thenewfuturists@gmail.com. We LOVE hearing from you! Remember to include “Southern Gothic” in the subject and if you’re okay with your letter being included in a future installment of The Purloined Letters please indicate “OKAY TO PRINT.”

Also, all of your talk of CULTURE on the letters page led us to start a “Culture Corner” discussion in the Substack subscriber chat. Our first chat was all about TV (as it is broadly construed). Click the button below to download the Substack app and join in the convo! Next up: we’re going to be talking books!

I know a number of our regular readers (and beloved social media trolls) have been champing at the bit for our story’s road trip to arrive in Faulkner country, so let us know what you think in the comments below! Also, if you’re a paid subscriber stay tuned below the paywall for an unredacted look at Agent Michaels’ file on Faulkner, a special-edition map of Yoknapatawpha, a look behind the design of my EC Comics-inspired cover for this issue, and a spine-tingling preview of Ezequiel’s art from Chapter 11!

Please remember, Southern Gothic is a horror comic and is not suitable for all readers. Chapter ten features depictions of blood, psychological horror, murder, substance abuse, torture, and supernatural horror. Reader discretion is advised.

I’d like to offer a very special shout out to my alma mater, The University of Virginia and the Digital Yoknapatawpha project for aiding the research that went into this story and its art.
